Tohoku Sake Breweries

In the wake of one of Japan’s worst natural disasters in modern history, digital transformation has been key to economic recovery. We wanted to demonstrate Google’s ongoing commitment to the Tohoku region through our efforts to support small business owners who were impacted by the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake – and whose stories of resilience were incredibly inspiring. To pay tribute to Tohoku on the 10th anniversary of the event, we launched two films that wove together the emotionally compelling accounts of sake brewers from Fukushima, Miyagi, and Iwate who worked hard to rebuild their businesses and communities. One version for Grow with Google focuses on how they used digital in their recovery, and a second version features these same breweries from a cultural perspective, for Google Arts & Culture.
